Begin solus lost review by Lily
Solus: Lost! Navigating the endless abyss of space, you, a very skilled pilot named Faron, are yearning to rediscover your way back home in the unforgiving cosmos. Yet, the path you tread is filled with treacherous perils, and your mission begins with the elusive homelinks – four keys to your salvation. Find and activate these homelinks to secure your passage home. Failing to do so in Solus: Lost, will cast you into the merciless void of space. This solo card game by @wolfboyeg is the new addition to my awesome small solo games collection!
Victory hinges on your ability to seek out the homelinks within your deck and activate them with the corresponding artifacts, each guarded by powerful overlords. To stand triumphant, you must confront and defeat them.
In you travel, you must vigilantly watch two critical metrics: the health of your ship and your pilot's age. Battles and in-game scenarios can deal damage to your vessel, while your pilot's age increases in increments of ten years. Should either indicator reach the ominous skull symbol, your game is over.
Embarking on your gaming journey, start by shuffling your deck and laying two cards face down. Choose one to reveal and resolve, then move it to its discard pile, replacing it with another face-down card. Continue this process, making your choice anew. The cards you unveil bring diverse outcomes: from benevolent beings capable of rejuvenating your pilot's age to menacing asteroid fields, hostile starfighters, or the formidable time eater.
In the heat of battle, a twenty-sided die (D20) will determine the outcome, following the damage scale to ascertain whether you or your foe takes damage or if both sides suffer harm.
This game won my heart after just one play. With a gameplay of 20-30mm, it’s easy to play a few games back to back. If you know me, you know that I have a thing for “small” games packed with tension and challenges (Lux Aeterna I’m looking at you) and this one is no exception! Plus the artwork is super cool so I’m super happy every time I play it. A winner for me!
